Ballinasloe Active Retirement A.G.M
There was a large attendance at the Active Retirement Association A.G.M. held recently in Gullane’s
Outgoing secretary, Margaret Brennan, reported on a very busy and successful year, as the group
goes from strength to strength.
Throughout the year, many members availed of the wide range of activities which include holidays,
day trips, socials, plays, sports and community works.
A large number of our members can be seen stepping in out on the Athletic track every Tuesday
morning and are actively taking part in the “Fit Town” programme.
There were successful reports from our walking club, Indoor bowls, Bridge, Book club and Singing
group , Our Knitting club members are busy knitting away for charity every Monday morning.

Founded in March 2002, the Association now has 200 members. Our aim is to enhance the physical, social & psychological well-being of retired people in the Ballinasloe area. Through our range of programmes, we encourage our members to enjoy life, maintain their independence, cultivate social contacts, make new friends, acquire new skills, share experiences & continue to contribute to the community CONTACT : ballinasloeactive@gmail.com

Ballinasloe
- Béal Átha na Slua (Ford at the mouth of the River Suck)
- Ballinasloe occupies a strategic location on the N6 National Primary route linking Dublin and Galway and is one of the principal gateways to the West. The town owes its origins to its location as a crossing point on the River Suck, a tributary of the Shannon, on the boarders of Counties Galway and Roscommon. It is the largest town in County Galway after Galway City, and its hinterland extends up to twelve miles from the town boundary into County Galway, and up to six miles into County Roscommon. The population of the town is almost 6,000 with a further 8,000 residing in the environs.
